2024 FIFA Congress to be Held in Thailand


BANGKOK: The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has selected Thailand as the host country for the 2024 FIFA Congress, which will be held in Bangkok on May 17 next year. The congress will be the first FIFA congress in the ASEAN countries.

Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, announced that Thailand has been selected by FIFA to host the 74th Annual General Meeting or FIFA Congress 2024, scheduled for May 17, 2024 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center or QSNCC is planned.

This congress is held annually. The important session during the meeting is the opportunity for FIFA members from 211 associations worldwide to nominate themselves to host the FIFA World Cup and propose candidates for the position of FIFA President.

More than a thousand delegates from all over the world will take part in this congress. The host country for the 2027 Women’s World Cup will also be selected.

The hosting of the 2024 FIFA Congress is the result of a collaboration between the TCEB and the Football Association of Thailand under the patronage of His Majesty the King and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports under the “One Ministry, One Congress” initiative promoted the organization of the congress. Finally, FIFA officially named Thailand as the host country in a confirmation letter.

The 2024 FIFA Congress will build confidence and strengthen Thailand’s reputation as a host of a global event, in line with the government’s objectives. It also paves the way for Thailand to showcase itself as a potential host for the FIFA World Cup through cooperation with other ASEAN countries. One of FIFA’s prerequisites for hosting the FIFA World Cup is the prior hosting of the FIFA Congress.

This meeting will generate revenue for Thailand and boost the economy by about 38.31 million baht. Additionally, it will enhance and promote Thailand as a destination for the global sports community.

Recently, from September 25 to 30, 2023, the TCEB and the Thai Football Association welcomed a delegation of five FIFA representatives who attended the meeting and inspected the preparations for the event following the official appointment of Thailand as the host country. The TCEB will support and facilitate every step of the preparations.

In addition, a MICE lane service will be set up to ensure a smooth entry process during the congress.
