EA FC 24 Best Defenders – the best young defenders to sign in Career Mode Latest

On the hunt for the EA Sports FC 24 best Defenders? Planning your transfers in Career Mode requires a fair bit of strategy. Not only do you want to buy players that are going to help your team out now, but you want wonderkids who will grow into potential world-beaters a few seasons down the line.

Luckily, during our time in the game for our FC 24 Review, we’ve had the chance to take a look at some of the players you can get your hands on for your FC 24 Career Mode, and have narrowed down a great selection of defenders to choose from. So whether it’s a tall CB or a pacey wing back, take a look at the best defenders to sign in EA FC 24 Career Mode.

Best CBs to sign in FC 24 Career Mode

CB is the easiest position to recommend, and while we’ve chosen a Dutchman, it’s not Virgil Van Dijk. Just like in FIFA 23, Bayern Munich’s tough-tackling Matthijs de Ligt is the best CB to buy by a country mile. With his experience at both Ajax and Juventus, he has an 86 Overall, and will slot into any team in the world. And with a Potential of 89, he still has room to grow.

If you can’t afford his massive £70M price tag, the likes of William Saliba at Arsenal, Nico Schlotterbeck at Borrussia Dortmund, and Sven Botman at Newcastle United offer similarly high Potential for around £40M thanks to their lower starting Overall rating.

If you’re not managing a PSG, Real Madrid, or Manchester United and don’t have as much money to spend, there are some fairly cheap bargains to be had from smaller European teams. Goncalo Inacio at Sporting CP and Piero Hincapie at Bayer Leverkusen each have a Potential of 86, and can be bought for under £30M.

And if you’re really bargain hunting, Giorgio Scalvini at Atalanta offers 75 Overall, 86 Potential, and is valued at under £10M, while Jorne Spileers at Rangers has 69 Overall, 85 Potential, and a miniscule £2.8M value.

Best LBs to sign in FC 24 Career Mode

No prizes for guessing who the best LB/LWB to sign is. At 22 Alphonso Davies has already been one of the best LBs in the world for a couple of seasons now, and thanks to a surprisingly low 83 Overall, he’s valued at around £44M. With a Potential of 88, in a few seasons’ time, he’ll certainly be one of, if not the best LBs around. He’s quick, has great dribbling, and his passing can keep up with the likes of Robertson at Liverpool.

But he’s not the only one with a sky-high Potential. FC Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde starts off with a lower Overall of just 81, but can reach a Potential of 89. Perhaps not as easy to slot into a top team as Davies, it’s hard to ignore that Potential, but as Barcelona’s starting LB, you’ll need to pay much more than his £45M value to sign him.

There are some bargains to be had here, too. Fiorentina’s Fabiano Parisi and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie can reach Potentials of 87 and 86 respectively, and are both valued at under £20M. While their 77 Overall might not set the world alight immediately, they will be almost on par with the likes of Davies in a few seasons’ time.

Best RBs to sign in FC 24 Career Mode

There are few good options to sign at RB/RWB in this year’s Career Mode, and who you should sign really depends on if you want a top-class player right off the bat. With 84 Overall and 88 Potential, Reece James is the best option if you don’t mind spending big, and he’s physical enough to fill in at CB if needed, too.

One step down, Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen and Pedro Porro at Tottenham both have 88 Potential too, but with a lower starting Overall of 82, you’ll be able to sign them a bit more cheaply, and each can reach the same heights as the likes of Achraf Hakimi or João Cancelo.

Lutscharel Geertruida at Feyernoord has a Potential of 86, and a decent Overall of 79, making him a great fit for a mid-to-low-table club. If you’re after a real bargain, though, Torino’s Wilfried Singo and Girona’s Arnau Martinez both have a Potential of 85, but with a starting Overall of 76, these signings really will be ones for the future.

What to look out for when buying a Defender

If you’re buying a Defender, there are a few key stats you’ll want to keep an eye on. Naturally, things like the Defensive Awareness, Interceptions, Standing and Slide Tackle stats are key, but power and movement stats are important too. A good CB has good Strength, Jumping, and Heading Accuracy, while good wing backs are pacey and have good Passing and Crossing.
