Space fantasy RPG being distributed by HoYoverse today (October 11, 2023)“Collapse: Star Rail”(iOS/Android/PC) PlayStation 5 version will be officially released. People who have been playing on smartphones or PCs will be able to play with the same data by linking their accounts with the PS5 version. Of course, it is also possible to start this work from the PS5 version.
HoYoverse is in service today.“Collapse: Star Rail”ofVer.1.4 “Awakening from a winter dream”announced that the update will be implemented on October 11th. This time, new characters Kagami-ryu, Katsuranoman, Topaz & Turnip, and Seele will appear.
This was carried out in September prior to the release of the PS5 version.“Technical test”I had the opportunity to participate in the game, so I would like to share with you the feel of the game and the points I learned after playing with it.
Speaking of what to expect from the PS5 version of “Collapse: Star Rail”,“High image quality and comfortable play”right. To summarize, the images are beautiful and the movements are smooth, which I was very satisfied with.
The outlines of the characters are clear and have no jagged edges, and you can see the high quality of the graphics. In the first place, the smartphone version was so beautiful that I wondered if it could run on a smartphone, and I was playing with the highest resolution setting, but with the advent of the PS5 version, I was able to see the true nature of “Collapse: Star Rail”. I feel like I’ve been shown off.
The detailed decorations on the costumes are clearly visible. It’s refreshing to see clear images, just like when you buy new glasses with the right prescription.
“Collapse: Star Rail” is a work that is fun to walk around the city, but thanks to the beautiful images in the PS5 version, you will want to go everywhere. When I was progressing through the main story, I returned to the area I was rushing through and found many things that made me think, “Wow, this place was so beautiful” and “Did something like this exist?!” Once again, I am amazed at the level of detail that went into this work.
Suddenly, a thought crosses my mind: “Have people who are already playing on high-performance PCs been able to see such a beautiful world?” Thanks to my careless choice of graphics card on my PC, I am able to play the game at the cost of lower resolution and frame rate. However, there are probably many players who are similarly worried about machine specs. The PS5 version is an option that will solve these worries in one go.I think that.
The settings menu for this test version did not have detailed settings for image quality, frame rate, etc., and was focused on vertical synchronization settings (on/off) to match the maximum performance of the monitor being used.
Speaking of settings, when the PS5 version was launched for the first time, it was linked to the “HoYoverse Pass”. If you complete the linking by entering your email address or scanning the QR code according to the displayed menu, you can continue playing from where you were previously playing on another platform. Then, the next time you start up, you won’t need to perform the linking process.
Along with the beautiful graphics, a major feature of the PS5 version is the UI for the controller (DualSense wireless controller). In the PS5 versionshortcut wheelhas been adopted, allowing quick access to each function.
When you open the shortcut with the[L1]button, there are three wheels lined up, but the center one is used primarily, and the left and right wheels have secondary roles. The UI will be familiar to those who used the controller in the PC version.
The center wheel has eight preset functions. Frequently used functions such as party formation and star piece guide are listed, but you can also freely reconfigure them. The[R stick]had a good feel of operation, and it didn’t move around too much and make it difficult to match, but the wheel can be narrowed down to four slots, so if you’re not used to this kind of operation, you might want to try adjusting the settings.
In addition, there are cases in which games in the world include “use the shortcut wheel as you like” as an auxiliary item, but in this game it seems that the operation of the wheel will be the main focus. However, the “in-game smartphone” is still alive and well, so if you press the options button on the controller, the familiar smartphone menu will pop up.
The main functions are selected using the direction keys and determined using the[x]button, but there are also items that correspond to shortcut buttons. I’m also impressed by the detailed button guides in the PS5 version as a whole, not just in the smartphone menu. The display was not excessive, and the layout was easy to read, so I didn’t have to worry about operations.
Although it is a small detail, the difference between the smartphone and PC versions is that you cannot access each function from the icons lined up at the top of the screen. In the smartphone version, you could tap the icon directly, and in the PC version, you could select it by calling the mouse, but in the PS5 version, only a red “!” mark is displayed to notify you of rewards and new features.
Although it exists like a notification column, it is much faster to select it with the wheel than to access it from these icons by moving the cursor, for example. I don’t feel particularly inconvenienced by not being able to choose directly.
There are still benefits to using a controller. Of course, the analog stick, which is familiar to gamers’ hands, makes it easy to move the character. This game is a command battle, so intense movement is not required, but there are many opportunities for movement, such as enjoying the aforementioned city walk and walking scenes in dungeons such as “Mock Space”. As long as it can be done smoothly,I never thought I would feel so light.
Personally, I really felt the benefits of analog sticks when taking photos. This work has an in-game camera function, and there are also missions that use it. I’m a person who likes to be very particular about composition when taking pictures, so I was happy to be able to fine-tune the character’s standing position with the stick and easily decide on the angle.
Battles also feature ingenuity unique to the PS5 version.
First of all, when you look at the screen, the icons etc. are arranged in the same way as the smartphone and PC versions. Corresponding buttons are displayed for commands such as normal attacks and skills. When it’s your ally’s turn, you just press the[□]or[△]button, so the feeling is almost the same as the smartphone version.
On the other hand, the way special moves are activated is slightly different from the smartphone version.Once your ally character’s EP gauge is full, hold down the[L2]button and select the character using the assigned button, but while you hold down the[L2]button,The battle will be temporarily stopped. This allows you to calmly choose the character you want to use your special move on.
As players of “Collapse: Star Rail” probably know, in this game it is possible to interrupt an ally’s special move even just before the enemy’s turn. The real thrill of this game is to use your special move the moment your EP is full to block enemy attacks or heal your dying allies to get out of a pinch.
However, there are also aspects that require reflexes and explosive power, so when multiple characters can activate it, you will find yourself saying, “Ah, I activated it in the wrong order! I wanted to apply a buff before attacking…” There is also moma.
For me, who is in such a hurry, the PS5 version’s pause feature was a really helpful feature. In any case, knowing that all you have to do is press the[L2]button at the moment of “Now!” gives you more mental leeway. For some reason, I think I got used to it quickly, probably because selecting the target while holding down the[L2]button is similar to the feeling of operating the shortcut wheel.
The activation method for these special moves is the same as when playing the PC version with a controller.
Of course, butThe graphics of the battle scenes are also beautiful. Not only are the effects gorgeous, but you can clearly see the details of the characters’ weapons, and you can clearly see that the enemies also have elaborate textures. It’s also nice to be able to press the[L2]button at any time to carefully observe the action that interests you.
By the way, what do you do with the sound when playing games on your smartphone? When playing “Collapse: Star Rail,” I often mute the game when I’m out and about to progress with daily quests, and play a low volume through my smartphone’s speakers when I’m at home. This time, when I played the PS5 version while properly listening to the sound,I made a small discovery.
For example, during battle, Sebal, a rock-loving girl from Beroburg, holds her electric guitar as a weapon in an upright position, and when the guitar lightly hits the stone pavement, it makes a sound that sounds like an instrument. I realized that. From there, she became curious and wondered, “Does that mysterious guitar have a built-in amplifier?” When it was playing through my smartphone’s speakers, I didn’t pay much attention to it because all I could hear was a hard “go” sound.
Once again, I realized that this work has no oversight in the details. At the same time, the PS5 version, which you will have to sit down and play,It is also an opportunity to enjoy a better sound environment.I feel that. When playing the PS5 version, you may be able to have an even richer experience if you pay more attention to the sound than before.
This time, by trying the test version of the PS5 version, I found thatYou can see the characters shine vividly on the big screen.I strongly thought that it was a good thing. It makes me want to play the quests I’ve cleared so far again on the PS5 version.
Also, to be honest, I was worried about whether I would be able to go back to the smartphone version after experiencing the PS5 version, but I got used to it. The smartphone version is beautiful enough, and its simplicity is irreplaceable. From now on, it looks like I’ll be able to quickly complete daily training on the smartphone version, while playing the development quests of the main story on the PS5 version, as I progress through my journey on the Starry Train.
