Government Criticized by Johannesburg Fire Response Action Group for Accusing Marshalltown Victims of Being Undocumented Migrants

Various non-profit organisations, who have collaborated to form the Johannesburg fire response Action Group, have dispelled the claims made by politicians that most of occupants of the building that caught the devastating fire in Albert Street, Marshalltown, are illegal immigrants.

In a seven page letter written to the Presidency of South Africa and various ministers, including the minister of home affairs, police, department of international relations and the embassies of Malawi, Kenya and Tanzania, the NGO’s have called for the misrepresentation to be corrected as it falsely justifies the inaction from government.
