All Rockstar games offer the best technology at their launch times. Apparently, according to a new rumor, GTA 6 will go further in technical terms. The game can overcome the technological leap between GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 compared to the most recent cowboy game due to the evolution of the Rage graphics engine.
From GTA 5 to Red Dead Redemption 2 there is a five-year difference and a considerable technological evolution. We don’t know when GTA 6 will arrive, but we can already say that it will be more than five years after Rockstar’s most recent title.
The rumors come from the website Rockstarmag and, according to them, for the new game, Rockstar must use version 9 of the Rage graphics engine with several improvements. Among them is physics, with water physics simulated in real time and better vehicle deformation, for example.
The studio has worked together with NVIDIA to bring the simulation of water physics realistically and without being heavy to process, that is, focusing on accessibility to a wider range of hardware. The website states that the ocean “will occupy a significant part of the GTA 6 universe” and it will even be possible to surf. Check out the game’s suggested level of water realism below.
Other GTA 6 improvements
Other aspects that will be improved in GTA 6 due to the new version of the engine are: more realistic day management (morning, afternoon and night), rendering quality (textures, lighting, volumetric clouds and more) and its artificial intelligence and reactions and better interactions with NPCs and police, for example.
GTA 6 should have even better lighting effects than those presented in Red Dead Redemption, with textures designed to have a realistic reaction to the light. The weather will also play an important role in the game, with winds that can destroy part of the scenery, damage vegetation and even hinder vehicle driving.
According to the website, Rockstar has been working to make GTA 6 a game like “never before seen in the games industry”, and a large part of this is linked to the evolution of its proprietary graphics engine.
The first time Rockstar spoke about the development of GTA 6 was in February 2022, and then in September of the same year to comment on the leaks that occurred in the same month. Since then, more than a year later, we have not had any official information about the game.
