Remember those good times glued to the CRT screen, pressing the buttons on the NES controller until they lost color.
Ziggurat Interactive and Limited Run Games have captured that magic and bottled it in A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection, a two-in-one love letter to the days of retro platformers and brain-exercising puzzles. The Retro Collection will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2023.
A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection brings a pair of NES and Game Boy hits back to modern consoles, including their US and Japanese versions. In A Boy and his Blob: Trouble in Blobolonia, you will have the fate of Blobolonia in your hands as the evil Emperor threatens to plunge the planet into chaos. As the Boy, accompanied by your new alien friend, Blobert (affectionately known as Blob), you will use 14 magic beans to transform your companion’s form while your puzzle-solving skills are put to the test.
In The Rescue of Princess Blobette, enjoy the exciting sequel, this time as the cunning Alchemist takes control of the Royal Castle of Blobolonia and traps the fair princess inside. Once again, it will be up to the titular Boy and his Blob friend to defeat evil, save the princess, and send a menacing busybody packing.
Powered by Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection combines that retro feel with modern quality of life improvements. Updates include Trophies for PS4/PS5, filters to change the aesthetic appearance, and finally, as a gift from the gaming gods, save points. You will no longer have to start from the beginning after losing the game.
A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection will be available on Tuesday, October 17 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. A PC version is in development, and will be announced very soon.
