Game Informer has gone live with a detailed analysis of the various graphics modes available in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2and while there’s a lot of different options to choose from, they make a big case for Fidelity Mode with smoothed VR turned on, with 120Hz set to Auto.
The articles explains how Insomniac Games is utilising 120Hz refresh rates to offer 40 FPS in 4K resolution, which it describes as “basically the halfway point between 30 FPS and 60 FPS, even though the math would have you believe otherwise.”
While games typically sacrifice some visual sparkle when pushing beyond 30 FPS, the use of 120Hz TVs and monitors tapping into 40 FPS means that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Fidelity mode is still able to retain all of the visual spectacle while running at a higher frame rate. Furthermore, with VRR set to Smoothed, the game will maintain resolution and adhere to a stable frame rate.
