Resident Evil 4’s “Separate Ways” add-on content has arrived, allowing players a look into Ada Wong’s activities during the game’s main plot.
As is typical in Resident Evil, Separate Ways brings with it a dose of puzzles, secrets and exclusive mechanics to uncover.
In chapter 4 of RE4 Separate Ways, the plot calms down a little and presents more puzzles to the player, as it is necessary to find specific ingredients to create a suppressant for the Plagas infection.
The first of these ingredients is Red Paint, which requires solving some puzzles. Advancing through the DLC is impossible without solving this puzzle, but luckily we have the solution for you.
Step 1 – Opening the Stone Plank Door Lock
At the beginning of Chapter 4, after rescuing Luis from a fire, you are released into the castle to collect items for the suppressant, including the red paint.
At the first intersection, go right. You’ll come to a locked door with a pair of “lithstones” inside.
In this part, you need to insert the correct stones into the slots, but for now you only have two of them! You need two more.
The first one is right behind you, on a bench.
For the second, return to the path divided into two parts and go straight past the inclined bookcase. At the end of this corridor, you will find the Merchant and another stone. Return to the door.
The idea here is to match the stones with the markings on the door. Some are obvious, but others are partially worn away, showing only vague shapes or colors.
Even so, it’s enough to figure out where each stone should be placed. Also, be aware that you can rotate the stones, as each one has different images on the front and back.
The correct arrangement of the tiles is shown in the image above. Starting from the top and going clockwise: stylized red square, black umbrella square, black dress hexagon and red hat hexagon.
Step 2 – Shooting the Shields
After opening the door, you still don’t have the red paint. In the next room, on a table, you will find a clue indicating that you need to shoot a specific collection of shields in a certain order.
The problem is that the room is full of shields. So which ones are correct? The answer lies in the collection of shields to the left of the fireplace.
Shoot the lower left shield first, then the upper right, and finally the lower right. If you get all three in the correct order, a drawer containing paint will open.
Well, those were classic old-fashioned RE puzzles – and now Red Ink is yours! Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways is now available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5.
