Gollum is destined to become one of the most hated titles in the history of the gaming industry. What initially seemed to be a fun arcade game ended up being a huge fiasco full of weird graphic choices and, above all, annoying bugs. The situation was made even worse by the fact that the game debuted at the price that the big studios usually ask for AAA titles.
Fortunately, the creators came to their senses and decided to at least apologize to the players. The catch is that this apology apparently did not come from their own hands, allegedly ChatGPT was used to write it, writes TechRadar server. What’s more, the apology was allegedly published without the official approval of the development team at Daedalic Entertainment.
The possibility that the creators’ apology was generated by artificial intelligence was originally raised by Game Two via videos on YouTube. The author claims that reports of ChatGPT’s involvement in the creation of the apology come from two anonymous sources.
Suspicion was raised by a typo
The impetus for the analysis of the text was probably one important typo. In the apology, the game is referred to as “The Lord of the Ring: Gollum” – without the “s”.
“We would like to sincerely apologize for the lackluster experience many of you had with the release of The Lord of The Ring: Gollum. We acknowledge and deeply regret that the game did not live up to the expectations we set for ourselves and our dedicated community. Please accept our sincere apologies for any disappointment we may have caused. Our goal as a studio and passionate Lord of the Rings fans has always been to tell a compelling and immersive story-driven adventure. Creating a story with Middle-earth as our playground has been the greatest honor – and at the same time the biggest challenge we’ve faced so far. At Daedalic, we understand that the success of a game depends on the joy and satisfaction of its players. We really value your feedback and have been actively listening to your voices, reading your comments and analyzing the constructive criticism and suggestions you have given us.”
Aside from the mentioned typo, this is a pretty decent excuse. At the first readings, it is almost impossible to detect whether it is written from the head of a person or from the head of an artificial intelligence. One way or another, it contains one unmistakable fact – the game was completely disappointing.
Worst game of the year
For 50 euros, the developers offered a game that became one of the worst-rated titles ever due to poor graphics and especially a lot of errors. For example on Metacritic is the PC version of the game, based on the opinion of 41 critics, rated 38 points, while the PS5 version is rated only 34 points (out of 100) by 56 critics. The rating from the players is even worse. Based on 280 reviews, the game received a score of 1.2 out of 10.
