After the match against China, the Vietnamese team will meet the Uzbek team on October 13 and the South Korean team on October 17.

The French coach has pre-selected a squad of 28 players to prepare for the matches, made up of young talents and experienced veterans, with almost half of the squad made up of U23 players.

I selected players based on their performance and current physical condition, rather than their reputation, he said.

Players who do not participate in these FIFA Days still have the opportunity to participate in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2023 Asian Cup or the next FIFA Days, he said.

Vietnam is currently ranked 93e in the FIFA rankings, while the Republic of Korea is at 26e position, China is located at 79e rank and Uzbekistan is now 75e.

Although Vietnam have recently won and kept a clean sheet in friendly matches at previous FIFA Days at home, they are expected to face challenges in maintaining their gains when these three teams are ranked higher globally.

The results will serve as an accurate assessment of the true strength of the Vietnamese team after nearly seven months of training under the new technical staff.

Coach Philippe Troussier said he highly rated the quality of China, Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea. He believed that competing against strong teams will allow coaches to evaluate their players and develop reasonable tactical strategies before participating in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia in November.

Vietnam strives to build a style of play based on a modern offensive philosophy. According to experts, it will not be easy to achieve positive results against powerful opponents. However, the errors and shortcomings revealed during the matches will help the French coach and his coaching staff identify areas for improvement and make necessary corrections to improve the team’s overall performance.

Coach Philippe Troussier wanted the Vietnamese team to perform well and show all its strengths and weaknesses during matches against formidable opponents.

“Our opponents are strong, but I hope the Vietnamese players can execute our preparation”he said, emphasizing the importance of playing style and the ability of players to create as many scoring chances as possible while maintaining fluid connections on the pitch.

“We need to focus on the positives. I am also concerned about the results, because the next three opponents are stronger than the Vietnamese team. However, I expect mistakes. When these problems are revealed, we will have the opportunity to remedy this”he continued.

When the Vietnamese team faces China, Indonesia and Thailand, I recognize the importance of these matches. We have studied China in depth and analyzed its strengths to prepare for the upcoming match, he said.

“I fully understand the current position of Vietnamese football and we are doing everything possible to reduce the gap with the best teams on the continent”he added.

These friendly matches also serve as preparation for the Vietnamese team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which will take place from mid-November 2023 to June 2024.

Being ranked among the top 100 teams in the world and top 20 teams in Asia, Vietnam will not be required to participate in a knockout round to advance to the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

In the Asian region, the 36 teams are expected to be divided into nine groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the third qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and securing a place in the FIFA World Cup final. AFC Asia 2027.

Vietnam is placed in Group F with the Philippines, Iraq and the winner of the next playoff match between Indonesia and Brunei. Vietnam will play as visitors against the Philippines on November 16, then face Iraq at home on November 21.
